LEWIS WATSON TRIO

LEWIS WATSON                        Tenor & Soprano Saxophones
ADRIAN TILBROOK                    Drums
ANDY CHAMPION                       Bass

Described in the 20th Newcastle Jazz Festival programme notes as a "local saxophone wizard" Lewis Watson is a dynamic and authoritative player whose appearance will enhance any jazz society's programme. He was the immediate first choice when trumpeter Ian Carr assembled a North East band for the world premiere of Alan Plater's "Going Home". He has worked with the Creative Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Mike Gibbs and Kenny Wheeler and is at present a featured soloist with the Voice Of The North Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Canadian composer John Warren.  Lewis is featured on the Voice Of The North - John Surman CD 'Chain Reaction' and on the new VOTN CD 'Park Bench Story'

This very special Trio includes Adrian Tilbrook on drums who has been active on the national jazz scene for many years including stints with Back Door, he is also a member of Voice Of The North Jazz Orch. They are joined by Andy Champion a relative newcomer to the jazz scene who has very quickly established himself as the 'Must Have' bass player in the region.

The Trio describe themselves as, "combining a respect for traditions with a penchant for playing loose and taking risks". They "play original compositions and take a fresh look at some of the more distinctive jazz repertoire."
