It’s rare to find someone still playing trombone in a standard jazz quartet however Teesside born Andrew Kerensky has been the resident jazz band at the Purple Onion in Middlesbrough for the last 4 years and has played at numerous weddings, balls, restaurants and corporate events such as- The Tall Trees, Solberge Hall, The Thistle Hotel Middlesbrough, The Waiting Room (Yarm) and various other places. His main trombone influences are J J Johnson and Jack Teagarden but is also very drawn to the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt.

A regular guest of the quartet is Jimmy Madrell (tenor sax). Andrew Kerensky is also the founder and Musical Director of the Middlesbrough Jazz & Blues Orchestra. He teaches brass and woodwind for Cleveland School of Music. The Andrew Kerensky Quartet plays mainly jazz standards as well as recent jazz compositions. He can be contacted at –
